Lyrics
There’s a one legged crow
Outside my window
Who forgot that he can fly
If only he would just take wing
If only he could learn to sing
And soar across the sky
He spends his days upon the ground
Making the most mournful sounds
Of longing and regret
Searching for discarded bits
Peanut shells and olive pits
And burned-out cigarettes
If only he could find his voice
He’d know he has a different choice
I wonder why
He doesn’t try to….
CHORUS:
Fly
C’mon, Fly
There’s a one legged crow
Outside my window
Whose wings are going soft
Their blackened sheen’s
A rusty green
They’ve never been aloft
I wonder if he is aware
That feathers worn in warriors’ hair
Give strength and inspire fear
The painful beauty they contain
Rolls deep just like a westbound train
As the last car disappears
BRIDGE:
Oh the lives unlived!
As we scavenge down below.
How can our souls forgive?
The freedom we refuse to know.
As passion passes us by
We forget that we can
CHORUS: Fly
There’s a one legged crow
Outside my window
Who forgot that he can fly
If only from a lofty tree
He could sing his songs to me
I wonder why
He doesn't try….
To
CHORUS: Fly
